We’re a fast growing start up, passionate about redesigning democracy. To do this, we’re looking for a research assistant to help support the MiVote research group.

You’ll work under the guidance of the Research & Policy Lead, but you won’t find the traditional hierarchy of task distribution and control here. We believe that there is nothing more fundamental to freedom and opportunity than for people to have self-determination. You’ll be in control of your own behaviours and goals, experience a sense of belonging working beside passionate people and also be afforded the space to develop mastery, however and wherever you see fit.  

 

What you will do: 

The Research Assistant will provide support to the research group in the development, design, collection and analysis of evaluative project data. In doing so, the research assistant will work closely with the relevant partners specific to their designated area of research. 

The Research Assistant will also be responsible for:

  • Collating primary data 
  • Cataloguing research and policy papers 
  • Writing briefing reports 
  • Coordinating research activities
  • Participating in the definition of research directions and any other research activities as required
  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Collecting and analysing data
  • Maintain accurate records of data, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary
  • Manage and respond to project related email

 Principal accountabilities:

  • Provide research on designed issues and frame under the direction of the project supervisor 
  • Participate in the development of a framework, methods and tools to support
  • Analysis and knowledge management activities
  • Design evaluative instruments, collect and analyse project data
  • Draft reports and briefing notes on the project
  • Coordinate research activities and participate in the definition of research directions

 

What you will have: 

  • An undergraduate or post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline: policy, science, philosophy, social science, arts and communication, economics.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of referencing software 
  • Experience researching & writing reports 
  • Knowledge of EEO principles & research ethics 
  • Experience in electronic data management 
  • Subject knowledge and oral/written communication skills in order that you can discuss and document research progress 
  • The ability to work both independently & collaboratively, accurately and to problem solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of research 
  • Ability to apply sound research techniques, methodology and logical critical analysis 
  • Strong organisation skills and interpersonal skills.  

 

The fine print:

At this stage in our journey we’re looking for skilful humans passionate about the MiVote movement who are willing to join us on a volunteer basis. We’ll need you to be available for casual hours (around 3 hours per week at this stage) preferably from November 2016 to March 2017. Your working hours will vary and can be very flexible according to your availability. We love being able to tell you that you are welcome to work from our office in Hoddle Street, Collingwood, whenever you like or you can work from home or sponge wi-fi from a cafe. As long as the work gets done.
